Milds

Mild can be light or dark, potentially brown or black or even gold!
Most are light drinking and not very hoppy. Some may share some fruity tints. whilst others are slightly sweet and toffee. Usually frequented with bitterness. light roast and notes of chocolate or coffee.

UK & New World IPA

Where British IPA is amber to pale brown, these New World IPAs are straw to pale brown and sometimes black or dark brown.
UK IPAS offer a biscuit malt aroma and can be earthy. piny or florally. New World can be more fruity, with potentially white wine hints.

Bitters

Most are amber to dark brown in colour, sometimes ruby or copper.
These can range from light to strong. with a thin to average body. Most have a malt finish. with noticeable hops and typically earthy. Often based on traditional recipes.

Old Ales

These are darker in colour, from deep red to dark brown.
These beers tend to have heavy malty notes. often with roasty, smoky or nut-like flavours. With plenty of bitter and dry finishes, others will be complemented with fruity flavours such as raisins or sultanas.

Pales

These can be dark gold through to amber, straw or golden.
They tend to be refreshing in characteristics. with light balances in earthy. citrus or fruity flavours. Malt is minimal. with the hops being more prominent.

Stouts & Porters

Often dark ruby or jet black.
They are both typically less hopped
than other beers, their flavours resulting from roasted grains and malts, offering chocolate. coffee or caramel hints. Different versions include dry stouts, oyster stouts.
oatmeal and milk stouts.
